you know, I'm pondering both candidates, and I think that I'd really like to vote for Obama, but then I actually get turned off of voting for him when I see people (not just you) post stuff like this up.

I don't think McCain is the devil and trying to make him out to be some horrible person just makes me think "Ah, so this is what it means to vote for Obama? That I think this way?"

I know it doesn't, but that's what it feels like to me.

How'd I make him out to be the devil?

The thing I think that IS true, that IS part of the issue, is that McCain is running on a concept of being a straight shooter, a maverick, someone who always tells the truth and never bends to meet political needs, and he clearly, clearly, CLEARLY, is not that person he presents himself to be.

I found the video amusing, personally. And I think he'd be a pretty bad president. The devil? No. But I think he'd be a pretty bad president, on a similar level to GW, although maybe not quite as bad.

The thing is, McCain turned my stomach quite a while back - before he was in the thick of the nomination process and certainly long before he was the nominee. Part of the problem is that he genuinely did seem to be this maverick, do-what-he-thinks-is-right-not-expedient sort of character, and when he showed his true colors (or maybe changed those true colors) it was even more disappointing. He was one of those people I held up as an example of how I can actually like a Republican - and then he turned to the "Dark Side", excuse the humor. He used to have guts, I think. He used to stand up for what he believed in. Now, I think, he'd do anything he had to in order to get elected. That's really disappointing. (And I also suspect that his support would drop off precipitously if people realized the walking contradiction he's become. The more than people can find out about that, the better.)

The thing that appeals to me about Obama is that he is running on the idea that he'll make a change. Whether this is just smoke and mirrors and his election will bring the same old same or the real deal I'm not sure of.

I've become jaded of politics and rarely get involved or even care precisely because it's such a damn dirty thing. Both sides have to make the other side out as crap. Personally? I think both sides are rather good. Yes, I'm not thrilled with a lot of McCain's stances or Obama's for that matter. But I think the two choices (just two, mind you, which is a whole other problem) are really not bad considering what we could have had.
