By now, I'm sure you all know that the Giants won Superbowl 42, defeating the undefeated Patriots to shock the world. It was so unlikely that even most Giants fans didn't believe they could win. (I did - so much so that I bet on the game, first time ever in my life to do something like that. It wasn't a huge sum, but it was symbolic for me - I knew they had it in them. Simple as that.) Even after the fact, sports writers blamed the Patriots' bad play on the loss, saying they had more to do with their own loss than the Giants did. But the Giants have been underdogs most of the season, and I bet even that's ok with them - they've suffered at the hands of the media all year, and they just keep on fighting. Now, they've fought themselves into the title of world champions.
I'm happy they won. I guess so are a lot of New Yorkers. It's been 17 long years, people.
The great thing is that the Giants did it with so many rookies starting - and they have the chance, next year, to have an even better year.
I'm proud of the Giants - they played with more heart tonight, and over the past few games, than they have for years. They deserved this win, regardless of what any critics or sportswriters might say. To hell with them. You did good.

Date: 2008-02-04 08:43 am (UTC)Well, Brady couldn't stand the pressure of trying to be perfect, and from the second I saw his face on the field, when he dissed Eli as the two teams crossed paths, I knew this was not the Tom Brady that was so meticulous with dispatching every other opponent. The Giant D was as hungry as I have ever seen, and that pressure was unexpected. And Manning's final drive was sheer brilliance and determination... worthy of a Joe Montana or John Elway, really.
This post season was a series of unfathomable events, really starting with the final regular game against the Pats, and how the Giants nearly won that one. Being the underdog Road Warriors was quite a ride, like some insane concert band that went on tour, visiting the next city, Rocking it and then moving on. Tampa, Dallas, Green Bay, and Phoenix. Every time the opponent thought they had us. Each time, they were wrong.
I have been watching ESPN Sportscenter and the highlights haven't gotten boring and I don't think I'm going to get tired of seeing them for a long, long, long time!

My father doesn't like football much, but wow...
We all were rooting for the Giants, since, you know, NYers. Even in CA.
But what a game.
We heard the disappointment in the voices of the announcers as they announced that the Giants had won and the Patriots had lost.
The New York Catch!
I don't watch a lot of football, hell I watch maybe one game every five years. I watch the highlights on ESPN when waiting for the other sports news to come on. But that was the most amazing play I have _ever_ seen.
